What is Directory submission?

Directory submission is an off-page optimization activity. It involves submitting your site to a specific category of a web directory, eg. Eg if you have a tutorial website, you are supposed to submit your site in the education category of a web directory. Some directories are free and others charge a fee to list your site in the relevant categories.

Each directory has its own guidelines that you must follow in submitting your site. Some basic guidelines that most directories follow to approve a site in their database are; Title, description, keywords, URL, category, email, and site content.

  • ·         Free Web Listing - In this case, you don't have to pay to submit in a directory. However, there is no guarantee that the administrator will approve your site. Also, it takes time for websites to be approved.

  • ·         Reciprocal regular listing on the web: In this, you need to send a reciprocal link to your site when you submit your website.

  • Provide the required details like URL, title, description and you are done with the submission.
